Effect of Heat Treatment on the Chemical Composition of Pentaclethra Macrophylla Pod

In this work, the effect of heat treatment on chemical composition powdered Pentaclethra Macrophylla pod was studied. The picked from bush, cleaned manually, soaked and washed with distilled water to further remove dirt particles. sun-dried for about six hours. This followed by ovum drying at a temperature 110oC three hours achieve constant weight allowed cool. dried pods were crushed form using locally fabricated crushing grinding machines later sieved. After sieving, divided into two samples one carbonized other un-carbonized. sample packed in an earthen pot covered lid. placed furnace, heated 950oC held carbonization under inert atmosphere. furnace turned off 24hrs cooling cool room temperature. taken out pair laboratory tongues cooling. treated determined XRF, FTIR proximate analysis. results showed that has alumina Al2O3 silica SiO2 as dominant metallic oxides. also had higher fixed carbon lesser moisture volatile matter. Therefore, can be used refractory material reinforcement composite development.
